President Dr. Muizzu condemns Israeli strike on Qatar, urges international accountability
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has strongly condemned Israel’s attack on Doha, describing it as a cowardly act and a grave breach of international law.
In a post on X, President Muizzu stated:
Strongly condemn Israeli attack on Doha, the capital of the State of Qatar. Such cowardly actions constitute a serious violation of international law and a blatant infringement on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of a sovereign nation. The Maldives stands in solidarity with the State of Qatar and calls on the international community to take urgent and unified action to hold Israel accountable for its numerous and continued violations of international norms and principles.
He wrote
The strike, launched on Tuesday, targeted Hamas leaders in Qatar according to international reports, significantly expanding Israel’s military actions across the Middle East.
Qatar, which has hosted Hamas’s political leadership for years and acted as a mediator alongside Egypt in ceasefire negotiations, condemned the attack as a “cowardly” assault and a flagrant violation of international law.
Israel’s military operations, sparked by the ongoing genocide in Gaza now nearing two years, have extended to multiple countries in the region. Its strikes have hit targets in Lebanon, Syria, Iran, and Yemen.
In Lebanon, Israel has focused on the Iran-backed Hezbollah movement, while in Yemen, its air raids have targeted Houthi rebels.
Since October 7, 2023, Israeli attacks on Gaza have killed at least 64,368 Palestinians, including more than 19,400 children, and injured over 163,000 others, according to international media reports.
