Maldives nears 1.5 Million tourist arrivals, poised for record-breaking year
The Maldives has welcomed 1,496,563 tourists so far this year, edging close to the 1.5 million mark and placing the country firmly on track to achieve its target of 2.3 million arrivals by year’s end, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Environment’s latest update.
To meet the goal, the country will need an additional 803,437 arrivals over the next 120 days an average of 6,695 tourists per day.
Officials say the target is achievable as the upcoming months coincide with the peak travel season, when visitor demand traditionally surges.
China continues to lead as the Maldives’ top source market, contributing 236,654 visitors to date.
Russia follows with 178,958, while the United Kingdom holds third place with 134,676 arrivals.
Italy (107,013) and Germany (103,342) round out the top five markets.
Looking ahead, the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has forecasted continued growth, projecting 2.4 million arrivals in 2024, supported by expanding infrastructure and enhanced tourism facilities.
