Maldives commemorates six decades of independence with patriotic ceremony
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed participated in a special flag-hoisting ceremony early this morning to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Maldivian independence.
The ceremony was held at Republic Square at 6:00 a.m., symbolizing the nation's pride and unity.
Vice President Uz. Hussain Mohamed Latheef and senior government officials joined the President and First Lady for the occasion.
They were received upon arrival by Minister of Defence Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon and Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage Adam Naseer Ibrahim.
The event featured the ceremonial raising of the national flag, followed by a special prayer reflecting on the historical importance of the day.
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) military band concluded the ceremony with a performance of the national anthem.
Maldives Independence Day is observed annually on July 26, marking the country’s full independence from British protection in 1965.
