The Maldives has welcomed French President Emmanuel Macron’s recent declaration of France’s intention to officially recognise the State of Palestine, calling it a positive step toward justice and peace in the Middle East.

In a post on the social media platform X, President Macron announced that France would formalise its recognition of Palestine as a sovereign state during the upcoming United Nations General Assembly in September.

He also stressed the urgent need to end the war in Gaza and ensure protection of civilians.

Responding to the announcement, the Maldivian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed strong support for France’s decision and renewed its call for all nations that have yet to recognise Palestine to take similar action.
