Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi received an official ceremonial welcome in Malé City on Friday as he began key engagements during his State Visit to the Maldives.

The warm welcome was held in the capital with full honours, reflecting the close ties between the two nations.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, along with senior Maldivian government officials, personally received the Indian leader during the event.

Following the welcome ceremony, Prime Minister Modi proceeded to the President’s Office, where he signed the Book of Honourables, an official tradition for visiting heads of state.

Modi is scheduled to hold high-level bilateral talks with President Dr. Muizzu later today.

The discussions are expected to focus on enhancing cooperation in infrastructure, economic development, and other areas of mutual interest.

This visit marks Modi’s first to the Maldives since assuming his third term in office, and his first under President Muizzu’s administration.

The trip also coincides with the 60th anniversary of Maldives' independence and the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and the Maldives.
