PM Modi hails Indian diaspora in Maldives as a pillar of bilateral friendship

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed appreciation for the Indian diaspora in the Maldives, calling them a vital bridge in fostering the close relationship between the two nations.

In a social media post following an interaction with members of the Indian community in Malé, Prime Minister Modi stated,

The Indian diaspora plays a crucial role in furthering friendship between India and the Maldives. Happy to have interacted with members of the diaspora and I thank them for the warm welcome

The Prime Minister’s engagement with the Indian diaspora comes as part of his official two-day State Visit to the Maldives, marking his first visit to the country since beginning his third term in office. 
The visit also coincides with the 60th anniversary of Maldives’ independence and diplomatic ties between India and the Maldives.

The Indian community in the Maldives, comprising professionals across various sectors, has historically played a key role in supporting economic development and cultural exchange between the two nations. 
PM Modi’s remarks reaffirm India’s recognition of their contribution and continued presence as an important part of bilateral engagement.
