The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has firmly denied reports that it awarded the opening ceremony contract for the new terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA) to an Israeli-funded company.

The allegations were published by Raajje TV, which claimed that a company named Banana Split who funds Israel had secured a USD 5 million contract to manage the ceremony.

In response, MACL Deputy Managing Director Mohamed Lamaan described the report as entirely false.

Speaking to "Voice" , Lamaan accused Raajje TV of deliberately spreading misinformation on a matter of national importance.

He said the company intends to refer the issue to relevant media regulatory bodies.

Lamaan clarified that MACL itself is handling all preparations for the opening event, which is expected to be one of the grandest ceremonies ever held in the Maldives.

The inauguration of the new terminal is scheduled for July 26, coinciding with the 60th anniversary of Maldivian independence.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is set to officiate the event.
