MACL conducts familiarisation tours for 36 Airlines ahead of VIA's new terminal opening
The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has conducted special familiarisation tours for 36 airlines operating at Velana International Airport (VIA) in preparation for the opening of its new terminal on 26 July.
According to MACL, the tours are part of the Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer (ORAT) process and aim to ensure that airport stakeholders are fully acquainted with the facilities and operational layout of the new terminal.
In total, 45 agencies have participated in these tours, including airline representatives, general aviation agents, and government institutions.
In addition to the 36 airlines, the tours have been extended to seven general aviation agents, Maldives Immigration, the Maldives National Air Traffic Services (MNATS), and over 1,000 MACL employees.
MACL also confirmed that upcoming sessions will include three more airlines, two general aviation agencies, and 10 additional stakeholders such as resort representatives, guesthouse associations, ferry operators, taxi services, and relevant government authorities.
The new terminal has been equipped with modern facilities to enhance passenger experience.
Among the new features are six self-service kiosks that will enable passengers to check in and print their boarding passes independently, significantly reducing waiting times at check-in counters.
MACL stated that the familiarisation programme is crucial for a smooth transition to the new terminal and to maintain seamless airport operations upon its official opening.
