Four individuals were injured in a serious traffic accident on Sosun Magu, Raa Atoll Fainu.

Among the injured are the principal and a teacher from Fainu School, both of whom are currently receiving critical care in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Malé.

According to eyewitness reports and family sources, the accident occurred when a motorcycle driven by an unlicensed student struck two pedestrians who were exercising along the road.

The motorcycle, which was reportedly moving at a high speed, also had another school child riding on the back of the motorcycle at the time of the collision.

A family member of one of the victims confirmed to Voice that three of the injured are currently on ventilator support.

IGMH has since verified that these individuals are being treated in the ICU.

The victims sustained varying degrees of physical injuries.

They were initially treated at Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital before being transferred to IGMH for advanced medical care.

Local residents have confirmed to Voice that according to the scene, the motorcycle was driven at a very fast speed.

Authorities have since towed the motorcycle involved and confirmed that an investigation is underway.

The incident has sparked renewed concern about road safety and enforcement of driving regulations in the atolls.
