Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has affirmed that he harbours no spirit of revenge, noting that even former President Mohamed Nasheed is aware of his nature.

Speaking during an interview on Raajje TV, Solih expressed his satisfaction over the return of Nasheed and members of the Democrats to the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

He described their reunion as a positive development for the party and the country, and emphasized the need to move forward without dwelling on past political rifts.

The weak take revenge, the strong forgive, and the intelligent ignore

Solih said

underscoring that he had no intention of seeking retribution.

President Nasheed knows that I am not one to act out of revenge.

He stated

Solih said the MDP and the Democrats have long shared similar political ideologies and had previously discussed the possibility of working together.

He revealed that during last year’s presidential election campaign, he was proposed forming a coalition between the two parties.

However, he said that from the start he believed the best path forward for the MDP, the Democrats, and the nation was for the Democrats to return to the MDP.

He acknowledged that there had been internal differences within the MDP regarding the merger, but said that ultimately the decision aligned with what he had hoped for, strengthening the party as a whole.

He said that what matters now is unity and working together and that we must not remain stuck in the past.

Solih added that MDP now faces greater responsibilities and must rise to the challenge.

President Nasheed officially rejoined the MDP on June 24, nearly two years after his departure.

His return, along with that of other Democrats members, was celebrated with a rally at Sultan Park on Monday night, where they were warmly welcomed by party members and supporters.
