Sinamalé bridge inauguration date chosen as National Engineers’ Day
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has officially designated August 30 as “Engineers’ Day” marking it as an annual national observance beginning this year.
According to a statement released by the President’s Office, the decision was made in recognition of the pivotal role engineers have played in shaping the nation’s infrastructure and development.
The date was chosen to commemorate the inauguration of the Sinamalé Bridge, hailed as the country’s most significant structural achievement to date.
The Sinamalé Bridge, constructed by China's Second Harbor Engineering Company (SHEC), a subsidiary of China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), also featured the active participation of Maldivian engineers throughout the project’s execution.
The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has been tasked with organizing the annual commemorations and related events for Engineers’ Day.
