Maldivian Airline commences scheduled flights to Muli Airport
Maldivian Airline, the national carrier of the Maldives, has officially commenced scheduled flights to Muli Airport, marking a significant step in enhancing domestic connectivity.
The first commercial passenger flight departed from Velana International Airport (VIA) to Muli at 15:30 yesterday and returned from Muli to VIA at 16:45.
The service will now operate weekly every Saturday according to Regional Airports Company.
Muli Airport, the first domestic airport in Meemu Atoll, was inaugurated by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on May 20 during a special ceremony held in M. Muli.
Speaking at the event, President Dr. Muizzu highlighted the airport’s strategic importance, noting that it would play a key role in the development of both Muli Island and the broader region.
Construction of the airport began in August 2021, with initial plans for completion by mid-2023.
However, the project faced several delays before reaching completion.
The facility is operated by the Regional Airports Company and includes a 1,200-meter-long and 30-meter-wide runway, along with a taxiway and apron to accommodate domestic flight operations.
