President Dr. Muizzu inaugurates MVR 540 Million Muli Airport, a first for M. Atoll
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Tuesday officially inaugurated the newly developed Muli Airport, the first airport to be established in Meemu Atoll, during a special ceremony held in M. Muli.
The domestic airport features a 1,200-meter-long and 30-meter-wide runway, a taxiway, and an apron, and is managed by the Regional Airports Company.
A test flight successfully landed at the airport in April this year, confirming operational readiness.
The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) was contracted for the airport development project, which included both land reclamation and coastal protection components.
Notably, the project was initiated during President Dr. Muizzu’s tenure as the Minister of Housing in 2021.
The scope of the project covered the reclamation of 14 hectares of land and 1,812 meters of coastal protection work.
According to Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muththalib, the total cost of the project amounted to MVR 540 million.
The inauguration of Muli Airport is a major step toward enhancing domestic connectivity and boosting economic opportunities in Meemu Atoll.
