Maldives joins Blue Planet Alliance to advance renewable energy goals

The Maldives has officially joined the Blue Planet Alliance (BPA), reinforcing its dedication to advancing renewable energy and sustainable development.

A non-binding agreement was signed on Monday, May 19, during a ceremony held on the sidelines of the Blue Planet Alliance Fellowship Programme in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef signed the agreement on behalf of the Government of Maldives, while BPA Founder Henk Rogers represented the international climate organisation.

Titled The Blue Planet Climate Agreement, the document underscores the Maldives' ongoing efforts to meet its ambitious renewable energy targets.

It also highlights the importance of international cooperation in driving sustainable development initiatives. Through this partnership, the Maldives has been officially recognised as a member of the Blue Planet Alliance.

Both parties have agreed to collaborate closely in promoting the implementation of renewable energy strategies and solutions, aligning with global climate action goals.

Vice President Latheef is currently in Hawaii on an official visit, following a special invitation from the Blue Planet Alliance.

The fellowship programme brings together representatives from government agencies, utility providers, and civil society organisations committed to addressing climate change and fostering clean energy solutions.
