President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has urged the strategic integration of global communication technologies to drive national development and strengthen the Maldives’ position on the international stage.
His statement was made via social media platform X, in commemoration of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD), observed annually on 17 May.
Marking the occasion, President emphasized the pivotal role of digital innovation in transforming economies.
He noted that advancements in telecommunications should be leveraged to enhance the Maldives’ appeal as a top-tier destination and to expand economic opportunities.

WTISD is observed globally to commemorate the founding of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in 1865.
This year’s observance holds special significance as the ITU marks its 160th anniversary, with the theme "Gender Equality in Digital Transformation" spotlighting the need to bridge the digital gender divide and promote inclusive access to technology worldwide.
