Shamaan arrested lawfully, not framed: Minister Ihusaan
Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan has stated that the arrest of former Immigration Controller General Mohamed Shamaan Waheed was carried out in accordance with the law, firmly denying allegations that the case was politically motivated or part of an attempt to frame him.
Speaking at the “Ahaa” public forum last night, Minister Ihusaan addressed public concerns over Shamaan’s dismissal and subsequent arrest on March 21.
In response to a question from an audience member, the minister emphasized that no citizen, including Shamaan, would be subjected to unlawful treatment.
This government will enforce the law without discrimination against any citizen. While implementing the law, we pay particular attention to those serving in uniformed institutions. We will not frame anyone.
Minister Ihusaan stated
Ihusaan also praised Shamaan’s professional capabilities, describing him as one of the most competent individuals he has worked with compared to many others who have worked under him.
However, he maintained that regardless of a person’s professional strengths, the government would not hesitate to take legal action against anyone who breaks the law.
Shamaan was arrested following his dismissal from the position of Controller General of Immigration and currently remains in custody pending trial.
He faces allegations of corruption and abuse of power, charges which have drawn national attention and public debate.
