Maldives 2.0 to elevate press freedom and public access to information

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing press freedom and improving access to information in the Maldives, as part of the broader goals of the Maldives 2.0 digital transformation initiative.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Maldives 2.0 Digital Transformation Summit on Friday night, President said the initiative was launched with the vision of making the Maldives a country that delivers public services responsibly and enables open, easy access to information.

I want to raise Maldives many notches higher in information sharing and press freedom in the coming years

President Dr. Muizzu stated

He emphasized that one of the core goals of the digital transformation is to make the Maldives a more transparent and accountable nation, with digitalization serving as a critical tool in the fight against corruption.

Highlighting the role of international partnerships, President Dr. Muizzu noted that Estonia who is the largest contributor to the Maldives 2.0 initiative ranked second globally in the Press Freedom Index.

He pointed out that Estonia’s success in digital governance and press freedom offers a model the Maldives aspires to follow.

He further stressed the importance of fully leveraging digital tools to make the country a fast, reliable, and responsible provider of public information.
