The newly developed Muli Airport in Meemu Atoll has officially commenced commercial operations, marking a significant milestone in the region’s transportation infrastructure.

According to the Regional Airports Company, commercial services at Muli Airport began today, with domestic flight operations launched by Maldivian, Villa Air, and Manta Air.

The airport saw its first test flight land on April 25, following the completion of major construction work.

Although the government initially scheduled the airport to be opened by April 31 or May 1, the official launch was delayed due to unspecified reasons.

Initiated during the previous administration, the Muli Airport project had originally aimed to begin terminal construction in August 2021 and become operational by mid-2023.

However, the project encountered delays that pushed the timeline forward.

Muli Airport is the first airport to be developed in Meemu Atoll.

The facility features a 1,200-metre-long, 30-metre-wide runway and was developed at a total cost of MVR 221 million.
