China reaffirms strong ties with Maldives during Ambassador’s credential presentation
The newly appointed Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Maldives, Kong Xianhua, officially presented his Letters of Credence to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during a formal ceremony held this morning at the President’s Office.
Ambassador Kong was welcomed with a traditional "Haiykolhu" cultural procession from Republic Square to the President’s Office, accompanied by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Drum and Trumpet Band, underscoring the significance of the occasion.
During the subsequent meeting, President Dr. Muizzu extended a warm welcome to the Chinese Ambassador and expressed his appreciation for the longstanding friendship between the two countries.
The two officials exchanged views on strengthening cooperation across various areas of mutual interest.
Ambassador Kong reaffirmed the Chinese government’s commitment to supporting the Maldives' pressing developmental needs and emphasized the deep importance the Maldives holds for the President of China, Xi Jinping.
Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and China were formally established on October 14, 1972, and have since evolved into a robust partnership spanning multiple sectors.
