President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that participants in the upcoming National Service Programme will receive a monthly allowance, as part of the government’s broader effort to empower and develop Maldivian youth.

Speaking during a press conference at the President’s Office, the President stated that the programme is targeted at young individuals aged 16 to 18 who have completed their O-Level examinations but are not yet employed.

He confirmed that the government is finalising a legal framework to govern the initiative and that an allowance of approximately MVR 6,000 will be provided to each participant.

Describing the initiative as a "golden opportunity," President highlighted that the programme will equip young people with essential life skills, instil discipline, and prepare them for active roles in society.

In addition to the financial support, participants will undergo military training, learn ethical values, and develop a sense of civic responsibility.

“This is a very important opportunity to increase our workforce and invest in the potential of our youth,

President added

The Ministry of Defence opened applications for the programme on April 30.

Eligible youth aged 16 to 28 can now apply, with parental consent required for those under 18.

The programme, described as a core policy of President Muizzu’s administration, aims to instil patriotism, Islamic values, and national readiness among Maldivian youth.

Application forms are available on the Ministry of Defence’s website, and the deadline for the first round is set for June 1 at 12:00 noon.
