No one is above the Law, affirms President Dr. Muizzu amidst protests

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has declared that he is solely accountable to the Maldivian people for ensuring justice, underlining his Government's unwavering dedication to establishing and maintaining it.

Speaking during a media briefing at Velana International Airport before departing for an official visit to Malaysia, at the invitation of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the President addressed the nation’s current political climate.

Commenting on the ongoing youth-led protests in Malé, President Dr. Muizzu acknowledged the concerns raised and pledged that the Government would actively listen, work towards meaningful solutions, and uphold the rule of law.

He reiterated that justice would prevail under all circumstances and made it clear that the Government would not provide cover or special treatment to any group or individual.

Recognizing the public's growing demands for transparency, President Muizzu assured that the newly formed commission, working alongside the Maldives Police Service, would diligently investigate matters and deliver the answers sought by citizens.

He added that any necessary enforcement actions would be carried out without delay.

Echoing his initial commitment to justice when he first assumed office, the President reaffirmed that serving the people is his paramount duty.

He stressed that no one, irrespective of their position or influence, would be above the law.

Whoever the perpetrator is, they should be punished according to the constitution and the law. No one is important to me in establishing justice or the rule of law.

Additionally, President Dr. Muizzu noted that key steps had already been implemented to safeguard the nation's well-being, prioritising security, peace, and sustainable development.

He emphasised that these efforts aim to preserve public trust and promised that the Government would continue to respond effectively to the current challenges facing the country.
