Economic Ministry discusses digital monetization opportunities with TikTok
The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade has initiated discussions with a senior delegation from TikTok to explore potential avenues for digital monetization in the Maldives.
In a post shared today on X (formerly Twitter), the ministry stated that the meeting aimed to pave the way for possible collaboration with the popular global social media platform. The talks are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the country's creative economy , a key commitment in President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s manifesto.

the ministry highlighted in the post, adding that the discussions were focused on unlocking new opportunities for Maldivians in the digital content creation space.
TikTok’s current "Creativity Program," which replaced the former "Creator Fund," allows users to earn money based on the engagement and views their videos generate.
The platform has already enabled several creators in the Maldives to generate income, and the government’s latest initiative aims to expand these opportunities.
