Maldives Immigration has detained six foreign nationals for working without valid visas and engaging in unhygienic food practices at several food establishments in the capital.

According to the Immigration Department, a joint task force conducted raids at four different locations—including cafes, hotels, and takeaways—on Sunday.

Photos of the establishments have been shared on Immigration's official social media platforms, highlighting serious concerns over the lack of hygiene in food preparation.

Authorities reiterated that the current administration is actively addressing the issue of undocumented foreign workers.

Several similar operations have been carried out in recent months, leading to the deportation of illegal immigrants and the closure of non-compliant businesses.

The Immigration Department previously reported that over 5,000 undocumented foreigners have been deported since the beginning of this government’s term.
