The government is actively working to expand tourism in the northernmost atolls, Minister of Tourism and Environment Thoriq Ibrahim announced during the inauguration of ATM services in Ha. Maarandhoo.

Speaking at the event, Minister Thoriq highlighted that under the government’s tourism expansion policy, efforts are underway to develop resorts in Haa Alif, Haa Dhaalu, and Shaviyani atolls.

He emphasized that improved banking facilities, such as ATMs, will greatly benefit both residents and businesses in these areas, making financial transactions more convenient.

Currently, islanders often need to travel to other islands to access basic banking services.

Minister Thoriq reiterated the government’s commitment to establishing ATM services in all inhabited islands by the end of the year, aligning with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s economic development goals.

Additionally, Minister Thoriq noted the ongoing development of the Hdh. Hanimaadhoo International Airport will further accelerate tourism and economic growth across the northern region.
