Crackdown on illegal expats continues amidst leadership shift
Maldives Immigration has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling illegal immigration, continuing its crackdown despite recent leadership changes.
The latest raid, conducted sunday night, resulted in the arrest of five foreign nationals from the parking lot of Heenamage.
The operation follows the dismissal and subsequent arrest of former Immigration Controller General Shamaan Waheed, who is accused of extorting MVR 530,000 from a foreigner in exchange for their release.
Additionally, three immigration officers have been remanded in custody over allegations of exploiting foreign nationals.
Amid these developments, the government appointed Ahmed Faseeh, a former Commissioner of Police, as the new Controller General of Immigration on Friday, March 21.
