Renowned Maldivian football coach Ihusan Abdul Ghani (Santhi) passes away

Ihusan Abdul Ghani, widely known as Santhi, has passed away.

Santhi passed away at Treetop Hospital tonight while receiving treatment for cancer.

He had been hospitalized for several days.

Recognized as one of the most influential coaches in Maldivian football history, Santhi contributed significantly to both the national team and several clubs.

He was part of the coaching staff when the Maldivian national team won its first gold medal, serving as the assistant coach at the time.

Additionally, he coached United Victory and Eagles.

Beyond coaching, Santhi also served as the Technical Director of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM).

Following his passing, President Dr. Muizzu expressed his condolences on social media platform X, stating

The passing of Ihusan Abdul Ghani (Santhi), a distinguished football coach who has brought pride to our nation in sports, especially football, both internationally and nationally, is a profound loss. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family and the entire sporting community. May Allah grant him eternal peace in Paradise. Ameen
