In a landmark initiative to promote tourism and environmental awareness, Baa Atoll Council has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Freedive Maldives to organize a record-breaking diving event.

The large-scale event, named "Baani," is scheduled to take place on October 3, 2025, in the Angafaru area, with an ambitious goal of setting a Guinness World Record.

The agreement was formalized with signatures from Baa Atoll Council President Ahmed Afrah and Fahud Faiz, representing Freedive Maldives.

The event is expected to bring together around a thousand participants who will dive simultaneously in an attempt to secure a world record.

Open to divers from across the Maldives, including those from inhabited islands and resorts within the atoll, the event aims to highlight Baa Atoll's tourism appeal while fostering awareness of marine conservation.

This is the largest diving event ever planned in the atoll.

The council has also announced plans to collaborate with the Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable tourism and environmental protection.
