Earth Hour celebration tonight, Environment Ministry calls for nationwide participation
The Ministry of Tourism and Environment has called on the public, businesses, and civil society organizations to take part in Earth Hour, a global environmental initiative aimed at raising awareness about climate change.
Ministry of Tourism and Environment issued a gazette announcement urging participation in the symbolic event, scheduled to take place from 9:45 PM to 10:45 PM tonight.
During this hour, individuals, businesses and organizations are encouraged to switch off all non-essential lights as a gesture of commitment to sustainability and environmental protection.
Highlighting the importance of the event, the ministry emphasized that Earth Hour serves as a crucial international platform to promote awareness about global warming and environmental conservation.
The initiative aims to unite people worldwide in the fight against climate change while encouraging proactive steps to protect the Maldives' natural heritage.
The ministry also reaffirmed the significance of collective action, urging private companies, civil society organizations, and individuals to participate in the 60-minute “lights-out” event, demonstrating their commitment to climate action.
Earth Hour has been observed in previous years, with widespread participation through symbolic blackouts, reinforcing the global effort to combat climate change.
