Ahmed Faseeh, a former Commissioner of Police, has been appointed as the Controller General of Maldives Immigration, according to Chief Spokesperson at the President’s Office, Heena Waleed.

Faseeh, who served as Commissioner of Police during former President Mohamed Nasheed’s administration, retired in 2012 after completing a 23-year career with the Maldives Police Service.

Following his retirement, he remained active in law enforcement affairs, serving on the Police Board.

His appointment comes after the sudden dismissal of Mohamed Shamaan Waheed, who previously held the position.

Shamaan’s removal follows an ongoing police investigation into allegations that certain immigration employees have been exploiting foreigners for illegal gains.

Authorities launched an operation linked to the case, during which a residence was searched, resulting in the arrest of three individuals.

Maldives Police Service has confirmed the investigation and stated that further details will be disclosed as the probe progresses.

Shamaan, who was appointed as Controller General of Immigration on November 19, 2023, was known for his proactive leadership.

Shamaan and the Immigration Department were widely praised by the public for their role in addressing illegal immigration issues, an initiative by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
