Maldives Customs Service has intercepted an attempt to smuggle over one kilogram of drugs into the country via air cargo.

According to Customs, the illicit substances were discovered during a thorough inspection of a general goods shipment that arrived from Thailand last night.

The drugs were concealed in twenty packets, which, upon initial testing, tested positive for cannabis.

The total weight of the seized drugs was 1,097 grams.

Authorities estimate the street value of the confiscated drugs to be approximately MVR 877,600.
