MVR 6.7 million worth of drugs seized in maritime smuggling attempt

The Maldives Customs Service has seized drugs valued at MVR 6.7 million that were being smuggled into the country by sea.

According to Customs, the drugs, weighing a total of 3.5 kg, were discovered during a search of a shipment that arrived in the Maldives by sea on Wednesday.

The seized substances included 2,138g of methamphetamine, 1,086g of ketamine, and 310g of heroin.

The case has been handed over to the Maldives Police Service for further investigation.

In a separate incident, the Indian Coast Guard and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) conducted a joint operation on the 5th of this month, seizing drugs worth USD 3.7 million (MVR 58 million).
