The Maldives Surfing Association (MSA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with L. Maabaidhoo Council to host one of the three events of the Dhivehi Surf League (DSL) 2025.

The MoU was signed by Mohamed Sobah, President of MSA, on behalf of the association, and Ibrahim Wisam, President of L. Maabaidhoo Council, on behalf of the council.

The newly announced event, 'Kerandoo', will be the second DSL competition held in Laamu Atoll — an area celebrated for its world-class waves and vibrant surf culture. 'Kerandoo' will replace the recently canceled Kalhegalekoda event and is set to take place in early September on the northern coast of Maabaidhoo, home to a renowned right-hand wave known as 'The Machine'.

As part of the MoU, Maabaidhoo Council, the event’s title sponsor ,will introduce community engagement initiatives, including kids’ surf tryouts.

These activities aim to inspire and nurture future surfing athletes by providing young participants with early exposure to the sport.

Laamu Atoll has some of the best waves in the country. Bringing a DSL event to L. Maabaidhoo is something the local surf community has eagerly anticipated. We strongly believe this competition will spark new talent and hope among surfers in the region.

said Mohamed Soba, President of MSA

'Kerandoo' is the second of three DSL events planned for 2025.

The season will kick off in July with the 'Mulikolhu Raalhugandu' competition in Muli, the capital of Meemu Atoll.

After the Maabaidhoo event, the league will conclude in Male’ with the highly anticipated 'Rannamaari Challenge'.

While exact dates for the DSL events are yet to be announced, participation in the 'Rannamaari Challenge' will require surfers to have competed in both the 'Mulikolhu' and 'Kerandoo' events
