Addu City welcomed 100 tourists on Friday as the cruise ship 'Noble Caledonia' docked at Maradhoo.

The vessel, operated under the Manta Trust agency, was received with cultural performances, showcasing the rich heritage of the Maldives.

During their visit, the tourists explored various parts of the city, including the Addu Nature Park and several historical sites.

The excursion to the Nature Park was arranged by the Addu City Council as part of efforts to enhance tourism in the region.

Addu was once a popular destination for international cruise liners, but the number of visiting vessels has declined since the COVID-19 pandemic.

In response, the city council has been actively working to revitalize the tourism sector. Last year, representatives from Addu participated in the World Travel Market Fair in the UK to promote the city as a prime travel destination.

Additionally, with the Gan International Airport expansion project nearing completion, the government has initiated discussions with major airlines to establish direct flights to Addu, further strengthening connectivity and tourism prospects in the southern region.
