Stasshani Jayawardena appointed Chairman of Aitken Spence PLC
Aitken Spence PLC has announced the appointment of Ms. Stasshani Jayawardena as its new Chairperson following the passing of its esteemed leader, Deshamanya D H S Jayawardena (Harry Jayawardena).
In the wake of this significant loss, Ms. Stasshani Jayawardena has been appointed as Chairperson with immediate effect.
Having been associated with Aitken Spence for over a decade, she has held multiple leadership roles, driving growth and innovation.
Notably, she was the youngest Board Member and the first female member of the Board, underscoring the company’s confidence in her ability to lead the conglomerate into the future.
Ms. Jayawardena brings over 15 years of experience in corporate management, having worked closely with her late father.
She has played a crucial role in providing strategic direction to various Aitken Spence subsidiaries, particularly in the tourism sector.
Her expertise and leadership are expected to sustain and enhance the group's ongoing expansion, in alignment with the vision set by her predecessor.
Additionally, Ms. Jayawardena has been appointed as the Chairperson of Aitken Spence Hotel Holdings PLC and Browns Beach Hotels PLC, as well as Deputy Chairperson of Lanka Milk Foods (CWE) PLC.
She also continues to serve as a Director of Melstacorp PLC and Distilleries Company of Sri Lanka PLC.
Ms. Jayawardena’s academic credentials include education at St. James’ and Lucie Clayton College and Keele University in the United Kingdom, along with professional development at the Emeritus Institute of Management in Singapore.
She is also an Associate Alumni of the University of Cambridge (Judge Business School) in the UK.
Notably, she was the youngest intern to work under U.S. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton and former U.S. President Bill Clinton in 2003.
