The Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology has announced that expatriates working in the Malé region must update their biometric information by March 15 to avoid suspension from the XPat system.

In a statement issued today, the ministry urged employers to ensure that the fingerprints and photographs of all expatriates in Malé, Hulhumalé Phase 1 and 2, Vilimalé, Gulhifalhu, and Thilafushi are updated at the ministry before the deadline.

Failure to do so will result in suspension from the XPat system, restricting access to essential services.

The ministry recently conducted "Operation Kurangi" in the Malé area, where biometric data of 1,455 expatriates were collected in a single day.

Launched in May 2024, the operation aims to compile biometric records of all expatriates working in the Maldives.

To date, authorities have registered biometric information for 25,483 expatriates nationwide.

To facilitate the process, a Joint Operation Centre has been established at the National Centre for Information Technology (NCIT), overseeing the biometric registration efforts in the Malé region.

The centre will operate daily, except Fridays, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
