Bangladeshi man dies after crashing into traffic cone on Hulhumalé highway
A Bangladeshi man lost his life on Saturday morning after his vehicle collided with a traffic cone on the Hulhumalé Highway.
According to Maldives Police Service, the accident occurred at approximately 8:19 AM when the man crashed into a traffic cone placed to block off part of the Hulhumalé-Malé lane for ongoing solar panel maintenance work.
Authorities have not disclosed the type of vehicle involved in the crash or the exact cause of the crash.
The highway is frequently lined with traffic cones to facilitate repairs on the solar panel structures along the roadside, which remain visible from a distance.
Emergency responders transported the victim to Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Malé City, where medical personnel confirmed his passing at around 9:05 AM while undergoing treatment.
Police have not released further details on the victim’s identity beyond confirming he was a Bangladeshi national.
Investigations into the accident are currently underway.
