President Dr. Muizzu reaffirms Maldives’ commitment to stronger China ties in new year message

Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has extended warm greetings to Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang on the occasion of the Spring Festival and the Chinese New Year.

In separate letters sent on Wednesday, President Dr. Muizzu conveyed heartfelt best wishes on behalf of the government and people of the Maldives to the leadership and citizens of China.

He also shared a message on his official X account, expressing his hopes for a prosperous year ahead.

My warmest greetings and sincere good wishes to President Xi Jinping and the friendly people of China on the joyous celebration of the Spring Festival and Chinese New Year. May this year bring prosperity, health, and happiness to the people of China

He wrote

President Dr. Muizzu highlighted the deep and enduring friendship between the Maldives and China, emphasizing their strong partnership built on mutual respect and shared aspirations.

As we welcome the new year, I am confident that our strong ties will be transformed to bring greater benefits to both our nations

He stated

In his letters, President Dr. Muizzu reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to the One-China Principle and underscored the importance of strengthening the China-Maldives Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership.

He emphasized that fostering closer collaboration would bring long-term benefits to both countries.

The Maldivian leader also extended his best wishes for the health and well-being of President Xi and Premier Li, as well as the continued prosperity and progress of the Chinese people.

President Dr. Muizzu made his first state visit to China in 2024.

The two countries have also implemented a Free Trade Agreement.

Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and China were established on October 14, 1972, and the bilateral partnership has continued to grow in key areas of cooperation.
