India’s Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has arrested four individuals involved in an attempt to smuggle 12 kilograms of hashish oil into the Maldives by a yacht.

The operation was intercepted at Tuticorin Port following intelligence reports of the smuggling attempt.

Authorities revealed that two individuals traveling on a motorcycle were stopped and searched, leading to the discovery of 12 cans of hashish oil in their possession. Among the arrested are:

- A 30-year-old employee of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

- Two individuals, aged 33 and 34, who transported the drugs to the port via motorcycle.

- A 56-year-old crew member of the yacht intended for the smuggling operation.

The DRI’s actions prevented the illicit substances, valued at an estimated MVR 21 million, from being smuggled into the Maldives.

Reports estimate the street price of hashish oil at MVR 1.8 million per kilogram.

Meanwhile, Maldivian authorities are seeking further details on the case.

Police Spokesperson Ahmed Shifan confirmed that an official request for information has been made to Indian authorities, though a response is still pending.
