Maldives Immigration has initiated the deportation process for three Indian nationals who were found engaging in unauthorized astrology practices.

In a post on social media platform ‘X,’ Immigration confirmed the arrests, which were carried out in collaboration with the Maldives Police Service.

The three individuals were detained during a joint operation targeting foreigners involved in activities prohibited under Maldivian law.

According to authorities, the individuals were practicing astrology without authorization, an act deemed incompatible with Islamic principles.

In a related case, the police revealed that they are working with relevant authorities to take legal action against a Hindu priest who reportedly conducted classes on Hinduism under the guise of spiritual healing.

The priest, identified as Master Durga Rao, had announced the sessions through his Facebook page and was offering spiritual healing and astrology courses in Hulhumalé, charging MVR 300 per session.

Authorities have noted that these activities involve practices considered haram in Islam, such as astrology practices and spiritual rituals.

It is reported that a significant number of people had attended these sessions before the authorities intervened.
