The air quality in the Malé area has reached hazardous levels, prompting authorities to issue warnings and recommend protective measures.

According to the Environment Ministry, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Malé has deteriorated to 137, a level considered harmful, particularly for vulnerable populations.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has urged residents to take precautions to protect themselves from the effects of air pollution.

Recommendations include:

1) Individuals with lung or heart diseases and allergies should limit outdoor activities.

2) Wear protective masks when venturing outside.

3) Children, the elderly, and pregnant women should minimize time outdoors.

4) Avoid taking babies outside.

5) Keep doors and windows closed to prevent polluted air from entering.

6) Reduce outdoor sports and exercise activities.

The HPA also highlighted that the current level of pollution poses a heightened risk of respiratory issues, especially for vulnerable groups, and advised everyone to prioritize their health and safety.
