President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans to submit necessary amendments in the first week of the upcoming parliamentary session to address the commitments made to Women's Development Committees (WDCs).

These remarks were made during his visit to GDh. Vaadhoo in Huvadhoo Atoll in his ongoing tour of Huvadhoo Atoll.

The proposed amendments, which will target both the Employment Act and the Decentralisation Act, aim to convert current allowances for WDC members into salaries and resolve issues related to Ramadan allowances, bank loans, and maternity leave.

This change, according to the President, is a key demand from the WDCs he has met over the past year.

He emphasized the critical role women play in the development of their islands and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to recognizing their contributions.

The proposed changes are part of a broader policy to empower both men and women equally, with a focus on island and national development.

In his speech, President Dr. Muizzu also highlighted the government’s commitment to increasing women’s representation in top management positions.

He stated that, unlike previous administrations, this government would feature the highest proportion of women in corporate leadership and ownership roles.

Additionally, he confirmed that institutions previously not led by women will now be headed by female leaders at the national level.

The President reiterated the government's ongoing dedication to empowering women and creating greater opportunities for their advancement.
