18-Year-Old on ventilator after Hulhumale’ accident; Police begin probe
An 18-year-old youth is currently on ventilator support following a severe accident in Hulhumale’ Phase 2, where his motorcycle collided with a Police car late last night.
According to a statement issued by the Maldives Police Service, the accident occurred at approximately 1:50 a.m. on Nirolhu Magu.
The motorcycle, reportedly speeding north to south, collided with a Police car crossing Nirolhu Magu from east to west via Gul’alaa Magu.
The injured motorist was initially treated at Hulhumale’ Hospital but was later transferred to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Malé due to the critical nature of his injuries.
Police cited hospital sources confirming that the victim is currently on ventilator support.
It was also revealed that the youth’s driving license had been confiscated last Saturday for violating the Land Transport Act.
Despite this, the Police have assured that their investigation will include a review of potential negligence on the part of the Police car’s driver.
In their statement, the Police reiterated their commitment to ensuring road safety and pledged to implement necessary measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
