The Maldives Immigration conducted a large-scale operation in Male’ this morning, targeting illegal immigrants in the busy Farmer’s Market area.

During the operation, Immigration officials searched 148 foreign nationals, resulting in the arrest of 23 individuals—22 men and one woman—on charges of illegal immigration. The operation, which spanned from early morning to noon, also involved thorough inspections of vehicles parked in and traveling to and from the area.

The raid was prompted by information obtained through Immigration Watch, highlighting concerns about irregular migration in the region.

The Farmer’s Market area, known for its high concentration of foreign workers, is a bustling hub that includes stalls near the fish market, predominantly occupied by foreigners.

Male’ City Council has also conducted periodic inspections in the Farmer’s Market area, often uncovering a significant number of undocumented foreign nationals.

These individuals are typically handed over to Immigration for further action.
