Stelco plants over 50,000 trees under ambitious five million trees initiative

State Electric Company (Stelco) has planted 52,334 trees under the “Five Million Trees in Five Years” program from June 5 to December 21 this year, marking significant progress in its ambitious green initiative.

The company’s Managing Director, Hussain Fahmy, highlighted the achievement in a post on X, emphasizing that Stelco is planting an average of 8,340 trees per month to reach its target of 500,000 trees within five years.

Fahmy credited President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s leadership for the program’s success, stating,

While we may not always immediately grasp the profound significance of your pledges, it is clear that each one is thoughtfully crafted for the benefit of both current and future generations.

He wrote

Fahmy called on the public to unite for the betterment of the nation, avoiding divisions that could hinder progress.

The initiative, which aligns with the government’s broader environmental and sustainability goals, has been implemented across islands served by Stelco, with a steady pace of planting ensuring the ambitious target remains within reach.
