The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has launched an online portal to facilitate public cooperation in the ongoing investigation into alleged misconduct surrounding the social housing schemes, including the controversial ‘Binveriya’ project.

The portal, accessible at evidence.police.gov.mv, allows individuals to submit information or evidence anonymously.

The police have assured confidentiality for all contributors.

Those willing to assist further can also leave their contact details for follow-up.

The investigation follows leaked documents suggesting irregularities in the allocation of land plots under the ‘Binveriya’ housing scheme.

Among the allegations is the inclusion of Mohamed Fazeel Rasheed, Deputy Managing Director of Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) and elder brother of suspended Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Managing Director Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed.

Although Fazeel was deemed ineligible due to prior housing allocation under another scheme, leaked records indicate he possesses a land registry for a plot signed by Housing Ministry Director General Ahmed Vishan Naseem on September 11, 2023.

Reports also show boundary walls have already been constructed on the plot.

In a press conference last Thursday, Fazul Rasheed denied the allegations, insisting that HDC had no involvement in allocating plots under the ‘Binveriya’ scheme.

Fazul, along with the majority of HDC’s board members, was suspended the same day as investigations were announced by MPS and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

On Saturday, Fazul tendered his resignation ans shared a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter),  a screenshot of his letter to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

In the letter, Fazul denied any wrongdoing and stated his decision to step down was to ensure a smooth investigation and prevent disruptions to government policies.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to uncovering the truth and urged the public to assist in holding those responsible accountable.
