Vice President discusses tourism and blue economy cooperation with China

Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef discussed enhancing collaboration in tourism development and the blue economy during a meeting with senior Chinese officials on Monday.

The meeting, held in Kunming, Yunnan Province, included discussions with  Wang Yong, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

Luo Zhaohui, Chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), and Liu Xiaokai, Chairman of the CPPCC Yunnan Provincial Committee, also attended the discussions.

Talks focused on boosting cooperation in tourism and key areas of the blue economy, such as ocean conservation, environmental protection, and addressing climate change.

Both sides further explored ways to strengthen collaboration in higher education, infrastructure development, and high-level exchanges between the Maldives and China.

Concluding the meeting, the Vice President and Chinese officials reaffirmed their commitment to deepening Maldives-China bilateral ties.

The Vice President is in China on an official visit to participate in the 'Third China-Indian Ocean Region Forum on Blue Economy Development Cooperation.'

The Maldives is co-hosting the forum, organized by CIDCA, which is scheduled to take place from December 15–17.
