The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has issued a public advisory urging caution as smoke from the devastating fire at the Housing Ministry building spreads across Male’.

The fire, which broke out on Thursday morning, has consumed the buildings housing the Housing Ministry and Construction Ministry, causing extensive damage.

Authorities have evacuated residents from several nearby buildings as thick smoke continues to blanket the city.

In its advisory, HPA emphasized the potential health risks posed by exposure to smoke and provided the following precautions for the public:

- Avoid entering smoke-affected areas unless absolutely necessary.

- Cover your mouth and nose if venturing into smoke-affected areas.

- Keep doors and windows closed to prevent smoke from entering indoor spaces.

- Seek medical assistance immediately if symptoms such as shortness of breath, severe coughing, or dizziness occur.

HPA also urged individuals with respiratory or heart conditions to exercise heightened caution, as they are particularly vulnerable to the harmful effects of smoke inhalation.
