Maldivian Airline to begin direct flights to four Chinese cities in 2025
Maldivian Airline, the national carrier of the Maldives, has announced the commencement of direct flights to four major cities in China starting January 2025.
These flights will be operated using the airline's newly acquired A330-200 widebody aircraft.
The new routes will connect Male’ to Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, and Xi’an, marking a significant milestone in Maldivian Airline’s expansion strategy.
A launch ceremony was held in Beijing on Wednesday to announce the development, attended by Maldives’ Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen, along with senior officials from both nations.
Following the ceremony, Minister Ameen shared on X that the new routes will enhance connectivity and bolster tourism between the Maldives and China.
Further details regarding flight schedules and booking options are expected to be revealed in the coming days, signaling another progressive step for Maldivian Airline in broadening its international reach.
China has emerged as the top tourist market for the Maldives this year, holding the number one spot as of December 9, with a market share of 13.5% and 255,200 arrivals recorded so far.
The launch of direct flights to Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, and Xi’an is expected to further strengthen this growing connection, enhancing tourism and fostering closer ties between the two nations.
