Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives, Wang Lixin, has bid an emotional farewell to Maldives, marking the end of her tenure that spanned over three years and three-and-a-half months.

In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Ambassador Wang expressed her gratitude to the Maldivian people and reflected on the milestones achieved in strengthening the ties between China and the Maldives.

During her term, Ambassador Wang witnessed significant developments in the bilateral relationship, including the celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2022.

"Over the past five decades, China and the Maldives have always respected and supported each other, setting a good example of equal treatment, mutual respect, and win-win cooperation between countries of different sizes,"

The ambassador highlighted transformative projects such as the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge, the expansion of Velana International Airport, and large-scale social housing developments, all of which have significantly impacted the Maldives' economy and infrastructure.

These initiatives, she noted, were the fruits of Chinese President Xi Jinping's historic state visit to the Maldives in 2014.

She also referenced the recent elevation of bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership during Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's state visit to China in January 2024.

Ongoing projects, including the construction of the 100-bed Vilimalé China-Maldives Friendship Hospital and road redevelopment in Malé and Vilimalé, were cited as examples of the vibrant cooperation between the two nations.

Quoting an ancient Chinese poem, Ambassador Wang expressed optimism for the future of China-Maldives relations, emphasizing the strategic guidance of both countries' leadership.

"The river is wide at full tide; a strong wind sends the sail surging forward,"

She envisioned a future marked by deeper mutual respect and shared aspirations for development, which was eloquently captured in her quote.

As she prepared to depart, Ambassador Wang thanked the Maldivian government and people for their support during her tenure.

Reflecting on the Maldives' natural beauty and its people's resilience, she described the nation as "a string of pearls that God left in the human world," expressing confidence that it would shine even brighter in the years to come.

Ambassador Wang Lixin’s tenure will be remembered as a period of enhanced bilateral cooperation, marked by a deepening friendship between the two nations.

As she bid farewell, she also paid a farewell courtesy call on President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, highlighting shared achievements and the strengthened partnership between the two nations.
