Parliamentary Committee backs Fuad Thaufeeq for Ambassador to Thailand
The Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee today has unanimously endorsed former Elections Commission (EC) President Fuad Thaufeeq as the Maldives’ next ambassador to Thailand.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s nomination of Fuad for the diplomatic role was formally presented to Parliament on November 25.
After reviewing his qualifications, the committee confirmed on Tuesday that Fuad meets the criteria for the appointment.
All nine committee members voted in favor of his candidacy.
Fuad recently concluded his tenure at the EC on November 23, after serving two consecutive five-year terms—the maximum allowable under current regulations.
His contributions to the electoral body date back to its inception in 2008, following the enactment of the new Maldivian Constitution.
Fuad was a member of the EC from 2008 to 2014 and again from 2019 to 2024.
